MEET DR. PRATHER

Hi, I’m Christina Prather, MD, FACP

Geriatrician, Palliative Medicine Physician, and Internist, Founder of Prather Medicine.

Dr. Prather is a geriatrician devoted to helping older adults age well and live as well as possible through sudden health events, memory changes, advanced illness, and the transitions that come with later life. She believes the best geriatric care begins early, is built on long relationships, and always includes the family. She founded Prather Medicine to bring expert memory and geriatric care to older adults and their families in the community she loves to call home.

“I never cease to be inspired by the love, grace, courage, and ingenuity of patients and families facing the challenges of aging and caring for those they love.”
— Dr. Christina Prather

WHY PRATHER MEDICINE

“Older adults deserve to have the best chance possible to live as well as possible, for as long as possible.”
— Dr. Christina Prather

Most health care is built for quick visits and single problems, but later life rarely works that way. Your memory, mobility, medications, the people who help you, and what matters most to you are all connected—and good care brings them together.

At Prather Medicine, visits are unhurried, care is delivered where you need it, and families are welcomed as partners—so you can spend less time untangling your care and more time living the life you want and focusing on what matters most. Prather Medicine is here to help you age your best and to support those around you.

Together, we’ll build a plan around your health, your family, and what matters most to you. You’ll leave with clarity, confidence, and a doctor in your corner, so you can keep living well.

EXPERTISE

Specialized Training in the Care of Older Adults

Dr. Prather is fellowship trained in both Geriatric Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).

She earned her medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, after first studying biological resources and biomedical engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received the James Bryan Award for compassion, clinical skill, and bedside manner.

Before founding Prather Medicine, Dr. Prather served as Director of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine and Associate Professor at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. She co-directed GW’s Geriatric Memory Evaluation and Treatment Clinic and was the founding Clinical Director of the GW Institute for Brain Health and Dementia. Her work has been published in journals including the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, JAMA Health Forum, and Alzheimer’s & Dementia. A longtime medical educator and curriculum leader, she has taught medical students, physicians, interdisciplinary teams, communities, and national audiences about aging, dementia, and serious illness. She believes education is at the heart of all that we do—that the more patients and families know, the better able they will be to advocate for the care that they deserve. She has over 20 years of experience caring for older adults across hospitals, clinics, homes, and end-of-life settings—with expertise in aging well, brain health and dementia, falls and injuries, health care transitions, and palliative care.

Dr. Prather serves as faculty at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, consults on age-friendly health initiatives and product development, and enjoys educating health professionals, patients, caregivers, and the local community.

“It brings me so much joy to create an opportunity for seniors to get expert memory and geriatric care in the DMV. I’m excited for Prather Medicine to bring geriatric, memory, and palliative care out of nursing homes, hospitals, and academic medicine, so that more people can benefit from it earlier in their health journey.”

HOW CARE WORKS

Care Designed Around You

Getting started is simple. Begin with a short introductory call. Next comes an unhurried assessment that ends with a clear plan. From there, ongoing care adapts as your needs change, with direct access when questions come up.

The result is fewer surprises, decisions made with confidence, and more time spent living well, at home and with the people you love.

““With the high cost of senior living, if aging in place is one of your goals, anytime I can help make that happen or delay the transition, it’s something I celebrate.””
— Dr. Christina Prather
